Švejk/Schweik

Text dotazu

Many years ago, I was introduced to the adventures of the good soldier Schwejk and his adventures in Prague during the 1800s. In particular, he frequented a locale in Old Prague. I'm interested in finding the name and address of the locale as it has many special memories from my visit there on Easter 1969. I would also like to find the book title in English or German and the publisher so I can renew my friendship. Thank you so much for your assistance. Also my brother conducts tour to the Czech Republic and would enjoy visiting the restaurant with his tour groups.

The well known Czech book Osudy dobreho vojaka Svejka written by Jaroslav Hasek (1884-1924) is translated into English as The good Soldier Schweik, into German as Die Abendteuer des braven Soldaten Schwejk. We found the newest English edition only from 1990 (New York : Amereon House) but on the Amazon (www.amazon.com) you can buy also some older editions. In German (www.amazon.de) there is disposable several new editions.

Concerning the  the locales: The adventures of Schweik happened during the World War One and started in 1914, Schweik (and still more his author) used to visit many locals. The most known and the main of them, where happened the important episodes from the book, is The Goblet (U Kalicha - in Czech). You will find all information on the web page of the restaurant (http://www.ukalicha.cz/index.php?lang=EN).
