Statue at Klementinum (Prague student)

Text dotazu

I am trying to identify the name of a statue at the Klementinum and the sculptor who made it. It is a statue of a man wearing a hat and holding what looks like a flag. A picture is available here: http://www.flickr.com/[…]/. If you have any information about it, I would appreciate it.

Sandstone sculpture called Prazsky student (Prague student) located in Klementinum is from the year 1847 and its author is a sculptor Josef Max (16.1.1804 Janov near Sloup in Bohemia - 18.6.1855 Prague). Josef´s older brother Emanuel Max was also a sculptor, Josef´s sons Gabriel and Jindrich were painters. More detailed statue pictures are available on http://www.atlasceska.cz/praha/prazsky-student/. This statue should glorify heroism of Prague students during defence of Prague against Swedish army in 1648. Student legion from Jesuitical Klementinum led  by Jiri Plachy saved the Old Town of Prague from Swedish army at that time. The statue represents a young man, it should be Jiri Plachy,  in a student costume with a flag in left hand.
